Chippy Gimikada in Kagay-an Festival
It was a big fiesta celebration at the Limketkai parking lot in Cagayan de Oro as Chippy brought its Gimikada Blow-out Concert at the Kagay-an Festival 2005. Thousands of barkadas rocked the night away with hardcore music provided by Manila’s hottest bands—Chicosci, Sandwich and Sugarfree. Local bands like Nuncy Spungen, Namaskar and Peachfuzz jammed in as well.
The venue was roaring, everyone was slamming to the beat as each band performed its chart-topping hits. It was a great crowd, everyone wanted to join the games and win tons of Chippy merchandise. The redemption booth was packed, all the youngsters were thrilled to get hold of Chippy shirts, pins, tank tops and Jack ‘n Jill bandanas.
Watch out for more Chippy Gimikada concerts that will rock other venues across the Philippines. Don’t forget to bring your pack of Jack ‘n Jill Chippy—Love Namin Talaga!
August 28, 2005, Sunday
10:30 a.m.
The Chippy Gimikada team head to Limketkai parking and supervised the venue set up for the night’s event. Everyone was busy putting up Chippy streamers and building the stage.
1:00 p.m.
Half-way through with the merchandising. The Chippy banderitas, however, were not cooperating. The crew, tried its best to raise the buntings as high as possible but continuously failed to do so (stress!). Presto Creams, Sea Crunch, Magic Flakes and Cebu Pacific streamers were hung in strategic areas of the venue.
3:30 p.m.
No luck on the banderitas. The stage is almost done. Sound check on-going.
4:30 p.m.
I thought I was dreaming, I looked up and saw dark clouds forming. After a few minutes, rain poured and somehow dislodged some Chippy streamers (great). Too bad. We took shelter at the mall sidewalk and watched as it rained harder and harder as time passed by.
5:00 p.m.
I was kneeling along the mall sidewalk and praying for the rain to stop. A lot of questions ran in our minds, “What if the rain won’t stop? What if it rains during the concert? Tuloy ba?” I prayed harder. We’ve come all the way to Cagayan de Oro and worked hard for this concert!
6:00 p.m.
The rain stopped. Thank God! We were back on our feet and rushed to finish our set-up. We were on a roll! The banderitas were finally up!
7:00 p.m.
Everything’s ready to go! Sound check done. Jack ‘n Jill selling and redemption booths ok. The hosts are on stand-by. Where are the bands??
8:00 p.m.
Chippy Gimikada started with Peachfuzz perfoming. Games sponsored by Presto Creams, Magic Flakes and Sea Crunch took place. I went over the audience and saw most of the people on the sidelines of the venue. Of course there were those who had the courage to sit at the middle. I took a seat too as I watched the venue starting to fill up. Exciting.
9:00 p.m.
It was Namaskar’s turn to rock the house. T’was fun hearing people scream and having a great time with their barkada.
9:30 p.m.
Everyone wanted to join the games. Everyone wanted to have a freakin’ Chippy shirt.
10:00 p.m.
Cagayan’s very own Nuncy Spungen was on. They were slamming!
10:30 p.m.
The crowd went wild and finally stood up! It was time for Sandwich!!! Raimund Marasigan brought the house down. With Diego Castillo and Mong Alcaraz on guitars, Myrene Academia on bass and Mike Dizon on drums (sorry for the incident)… who can beat that?? Crayzay!! Miggy Chavez of Chicosci even went on stage and jammed with the band (girls went wild). Yes, Two Trick Pony did the trick.
11:15 p.m.
It was time for my favorite band Sugarfree! Astig si Ebe (Dancel) to think that he wasn’t feeling that well. But he definitely gave an exceptional show. The audience was at awe just listening to the band’s hit songs. Great!
12:00 midnight
There’s no stopping Chippy Gimikada… it’s midnight but the crowd went absolutely wild when it was Chicosci’s turn to rock the show. Everyone was screaming and slamming. The barricades were smashed up as some boys tried to climb the steel barrier. The bouncers tried their best to caution these guys. Can’t blame them, the concert was roaring!
12:30 a.m.
What better song to end the Chippy Gimikada concert than Paris. It was amazing that the crowd sang with Miggy (Chavez). They knew the lyrics! Mong, Calde, Sonny, Yoog and Joel played like crazy! CDO loves Chicosci! That’s for sure…
1:00 a.m.
Success! Time flies so fast when you’re having fun. Twas a great concert! The fans came rushing to get their shirts, belts, bags, shoes (yup, shoes) autographed by the band members back stage.
1:30 a.m.
While we were walking home, a group of barkada passed us by as they screamed, “Idol ang Chippy! Astig!” Now who said we were tired? We won’t get enough of this. Chippy, Love Namin Talaga!!!
